Proteomics

MALDI-TOF and Ion Trap mass spectrometer systems are "tools of the trade" in proteomics. With AP/MALDI coupled to an ion trap mass spectrometer you can quickly analyze digests, generating high quality MS/MS data for protein identification - potentially reducing the need for time consuming LC/MS/MS analysis of many samples. MALDI is known for its capacity to ionize intact proteins and peptides providing for accurate mass peptide mass mapping, while traps are routinely used for sequencing when combined with database search algorithms. The AP/MALDI technique has shown sensitivity in the attomole level range for protein digest samples, high throughput automated analysis, and useful MS/MS fragmentation data.

Typical protocols for sample preparation in proteomics applications can be found here.
