Antioxidants, which are applied in lubricants, are easily detected by AP/MALDI in combination with ion trap mass spectrometry.
The antioxidants found in many lubricants prevent or slow the oxidation process in metals, such as iron, stainless steel and copper.
Common antioxidants in lubricants, which can be detected by AP/MALDI, include both phenolic compounds and aromatic amines. These antioxidants range in molecular mass from 200-1100Da. The advantage of using AP/MALDI is to be able to analyze antioxidants as a thin solid layer on metallic surfaces. MassTech’s gold-covered stainless steel MALDI target plates provide the best antioxidants mass spectra.
